Why do we exist?
The purpose of the association is to raise the profile of the ethology profession in the workplace and with the public. We want to demonstrate the need for ethologists and focus on how our expertise can further advance the issue of animal welfare, in various forms. In the long term, we want everyone who has an interest in animals to know who ethologists are, why we exist and what we do.
We are aimed at pet owners, professional animal keepers or organizations working with or about animals, as well as farmers or those working with zoo animals or laboratory animals.
What we do?
We are a referral body to the Swedish Board of Agriculture on animal welfare issues.
Every year we award scholarships, including for the best bachelor's thesis to a student in the Ethology and Animal Welfare Program.
We organize continuing education for our members and hold lectures and events where other interested parties can also sign up.
Membership costs SEK 300 per year and SEK 150 for students. Supporting members who want to contribute to the association's work pay an optional sum of at least SEK 50 per year.

Swedish Academic Ethologists is an independent, politically neutral non-profit organization to which ethologists apply for membership. To become a member of the association, you must have a solid academic education in the subject and thus have an updated scientific basis about animal behavior when we work.
