Sick pay from day 1
On days 1 to 14, statutory sick pay is paid by the employer. It amounts to 80% of your regular salary.
If you are sick for more than seven days, you must submit a sickness certificate from your doctor to your employer after the seventh day.
Sickness benefit from day 15

Your employer must report your illness to the Social Insurance Agency on the fifteenth day, but you apply for sickness benefit yourself.

Supplementary sick pay
If you are covered by a collective agreement, your employer will usually pay you sick pay for days 15-90. This is an important supplement, especially for those who earn more than the Försäkringskassan ceiling.
Collectively agreed compensation after day 90 varies slightly depending on the sector in which you work:
- If you work in the private sector and become long-term ill, you will usually receive a disability pension from Alecta

- If you work in the state sector, you will receive collectively agreed sick pay from your employer up to and including day 364 of the sickness period.

Sick for more than a year
If you are ill for a longer period, an assessment is made of your continued working capacity. If you are expected to have permanently reduced working capacity, you may receive sickness or activity compensation from Försäkringskassan. You may also be entitled to a disability pension if there is a collective agreement at your workplace.
