The right to be on leave applies to basic education in the Swedish language, which is regulated in a separate law. For further education, you may instead be entitled to leave of absence under the Study Leave Act.
You must inform your employer at least one month before the course begins.
To avoid practical problems, the training coordinator, the employer, the employee and, if there is a collective agreement, a trade union representative must take part in a consultation. The aim of the consultation is to reach an agreement that best takes into account the needs of the employer and the employee. If no agreement is reached, the employee is entitled to full-time leave for full-time studies and reduced working hours for part-time studies.
If you want to interrupt your studies early, you can return to work. You must inform your employer as soon as possible and at least two weeks in advance. If you notify your employer less than two weeks in advance, you will not be entitled to return to work until two weeks have passed since the notification was given.
