The planning conversation does not have to lead to a concrete decision, but the important thing is to have a discussion about expectations and wishes.
To discuss at the planning meeting:
- Review your duties, responsibilities and powers together. Update your contract of employment if, for example, you have changed tasks and progressed without changing your old contract.
- Length of parental leave and time after parental leave. Do you think you will want to work full or part-time?
- How your duties will be managed during your leave. Will a temporary worker carry out your tasks or will they be outsourced to other workers? How will you hand over? How will this affect you? How will you be kept informed about what is happening?
- How the contact with the employer will work during the leave. Attending a planning day or a meeting during your leave can be a good way to keep in touch with the workplace. This is particularly important if your employer is planning to reorganize or downsize during your parental leave.
- How to maintain and develop your skills. Review together your need for information and access to email at home to keep you up to date with what is happening in your professional field.
- Remember to take notes of the conversation with your employer and have them confirmed, preferably by email. This will make it much easier if you need to return to any issue you have previously raised.
Pay review during parental leave
Your salary should be reviewed at the annual salary review also during your parental leave. Discuss with your employer before you go on parental leave how and when the salary review will take place. If you feel that your employer does not want to discuss salary negotiations during parental leave, you should contact your local trade union representative or contact Naturvetarnas' member advice service.
