Right part-time with children under 12?
Under the Parental Leave Act, you have the right to reduce your working hours until the child is 12 years old if you have days of parental benefit to take for the same period. If you do not take parental leave, the age limit is 8 years.
An employee who does not take parental leave is entitled to reduce his/her normal working hours by up to a quarter to care for his/her child. This applies if the child is under 8 years old or is older but has not yet completed the first year of school. Some collective agreements provide for the right to reduce working hours up to the child's 12th birthday.
It is possible that an individual collective agreement could contain more generous rules on this. If there is a collective agreement at the workplace, it may be an idea to see if there are other rules.
Otherwise, leave of absence is something you can discuss with your employer. However, the employer has the right to deny the leave for business reasons.
