Is parental leave disqualifying?
Whether leave from work is a reason for holiday pay is usually regulated in the Holiday Act External link.or in the applicable collective agreement. Only certain types of absence qualify for holiday pay under the Holiday Act or collective agreements. Which collective agreement applies depends on where you work.
Parental leave in the event of the birth or adoption of a child qualifies for holiday pay for the first 120 days for which you take parental benefit (for single parents, the first 180 days). This applies regardless of whether the parental benefit is at sickness benefit level, basic level or minimum level.
