Do I need to provide references already in the application?

There is no requirement to provide references in your application, even if the employer has asked for them in the advertisement. The usual practice is to state that references exist and can be provided on request. You should be careful with your references and if you have several people to choose from, you may first want to hear a little more about the role to choose which references are best suited to that particular position.
