Do I need to declare unemployment when I am between jobs?

We recommend that you register as a jobseeker with the Public Employment Service in order to protect your SGI (sickness benefit-based income from the Social Insurance Agency), even if you have a new job waiting. If you do not find a job later (for unclear reasons), you have protected your SGI from the first day of unemployment by registering with the Public Employment Service when you leave your current job instead of at a later date.
