Software and IT services account for most of the growth, and it is also in this subsector that most people work (70 %). It is also where virtually all scientists are employed.
The tech industry employs:
- About 250,000 people.
- 32 400 scientists, most of whom work in computer programming and systems development.
- The number of people employed increased by 24% between 2015 and 2018.
Major skills shortage in the tech sector
There is a major skills shortage in the sector. This is because IT-intensive sectors account for a very large proportion of the new jobs created in Sweden.44 The industry and employer organization TechSverige reports that 40 percent of jobs in tech are difficult to fill.
