LÄS ANNA EKSTRÖMS GÄSTKRÖNIKA
The labour market in Sweden is regulated by collective agreements that are negotiated by different employee and employer organisations.
From an international perspective legal protection is relatively weak. For this reason it is important to ensure that your workplace is covered by a collective agreement, and that you have a contract of employment.
If your workplace does not have a collective agreement, you should always ask representatives of the Swedish Association of Scientists to review your contract of employment before accepting a post. Our representatives can also help you identify the terms that apply to your employment.
The most important law regulation the relationship between employer and employee is Act (1976:580 as pdf)) regarding Co-Determination in the Workplace(pdf).
Another important law is Act (1974:358) regarding Trade Union Representatives Status at the Workplace(pdf)
Most Swedish labour legislation is found in this government webpage
